@max, you nailed the very first entry! You lucky dog you! So I thought this tune was pretty sweet. You had a real Johnny Cash vibe going on. For a few moments, I forgot I was listening to a FAWM song and I thought "Is this a Johnny Cash jam?" but them remebered it was MAX! I feel like the vocals are just right, the strumming is just right and the lyrics were just right. Overall, this is a brilliant start to FAWM and makes me excited to be new here and get to hear what everyone else comes up with! But you're a hard act to follow, so God help us all haha

I liked the lyrics, and I liked the music. The piano and guitar were very haunting and melancholy, supported by your vocal delivery. That said, I might be missing something, since I have never seen the show, but the lyrics seemed happy, and the music seemed sad. If this was intentional for support of your theme, it was very well done. If not, a major key, rather than minor with a similar musical arrangement could make the lyrics and tone align. Just my 2 cents on a really nice song, way to kick off FAWM!

The occasional drop into the minor key make me think this isn't quite the bright and peppy love song that the protagonist wants us to think it is, and that choir in the background isn't doing much to convince me otherwise. I've not seen the show but that trenchant delivery has me *totally* expecting at least one murder ballad to crop up in the next month. I'm relying on you to deliver, Max :-)

I love the haunting melody you are playing on the piano. The lyrics are very sweet which I think works very nicely against the more somber sound you have with the arrangement.

A very nice punk song. I love the driving drums and distorted guitar. Your vocals shine nicely on this track. the chorus manages to be gritty but still super catchy.

First off, the whistle in the background was amazing! I get such a delight out of whistles in music because it just sounds so cool! This track had a very summery, very bouncy and very breezy feel to it overall. I didn̢۪t even realize it was a love song until midway through the track because I was so lost in the music! You̢۪re a really talented guy, Max. You̢۪re one to watch for sure! I̢۪ll have to add you to the watch list thing so I can fanboy about you and your excellence! Really cool track man, made me feel hella happy inside!

I like the kind of mysterious feeling the music gives me...i think it's a combination of the melody and your voice and the reverb on it..makes me think of Deep South Americana... sweet lyrics as well.

I really like the guitar, it works really nicely with the percussion. You may have just created a genre all your own, acoustic disco is amazing. I love the whistle break, it's really nice and works so well with the rest of the song. The lyrics a beautifully romantic.

I'm dancing in my seat to the rhythm on this song... So catchy and fun, you know, for a sad song about not being loved. Great balance. The lyrical repetition really works with the topic, to really drive home the point. Great job on this one! :)

Rock. I like the driving music for the lyric that could be defiant/pleading (perhaps why the original chorus wasn't sue's fave?) but you went more defiant/commanding on the music so now that's how I read it. It's tough, made of crushed stones and broken bottles and pushing through the sentiment to assert itself. It's here, it's going to have its say, and you're (or we're) going to hear it out. This may be reading a bit into it, but that's how the collab version hits me. Well done, you two.

I like that the drums and guitar have the kind of energy of an Irish folk song without the flutes, but the overall mood of the song is more like blues or even a really melancholy slowcore number like "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star, or something by Portishead. The kind where the singer is begging for someone to stay, or come back, or wait for them, and it sounds like an impassioned, dying request almost. I guess what I mean is that I could imagine listening to this song at an Irish wake. I dig it.

@riverpatriot: I started this in a notebook I've been carrying around for some time. Decided to finally finish it.
@max : Saw these lyrics http://fawm.org/songs/79399/ , grabbed my guitar, played it a few times and recorded. Forgot to tune, but it's close enough.
It was a special twenty minutes, just me, my guitar and those well written words.
After approval from @riverpatriot I decided to keep the original late night recording, instead of rerecording.

Sugar coated on the outside but with some real substance on the inside. Very catchy tune and the cheerfulness of it is deceptive. Took me a while to realize the tragic undertones. Very cleverly written and excellently performed. This will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day, I'm sure.

Wonderful energy and attitude in the music and vocals. Lyrics make me sad for the farmers. :( Women can be so shallow sometimes. :( Nice rhythm in the verse melody.

Max! Love the galloping rhythm and the raw grab-me-by-the-collar energy here. When you got to the title line I laughed out loud and then felt sad but it is so packed with honesty that it's triumphant!

This song is so much fun, I love that you ended on such a high positive note. I love the delivery of "you nailed it" it's really catchy. I was definitely tapping my toe along with the beat. That percussion work is really nice, it lays a great foundation for the other parts.

Piano ska! Love it! I can hear the horn shots in my head. This really has an old-school feel to it, if not original 60s ska, definitely the britska revival in the 80s -- especially with that bridge modulation. It's Special! I didn't nail it this year, but you sure did. Great shot of fun positivity.

Max - oh yes - we go back a long way - you're an open hearted punk & I really appreciate your words. Frankly I might not have done anything this year but I saw you'd returned so I thought I'd do something too - I hadn't planned to tbh and wasn't prepared either. Next year I'm going to take it more seriously and get myself ready. My youngest (flautist - 22!) has been away at uni for 3.5 years but is still very involved with music and my eldest (violinist - 25 next month!) has drifted away from music but she was very ill for a number of years but she's ow doing OK atm - now finished uni and started work last July but living about 2hrs away - I think they would help me out if I asked but it's finding the time when we are together. For all their talent they don't have the impulse that drives us to create our own music. I have a couple of friends who want to help me do some better quality recording (which I find tedious) so I'll be hooking up with them in the next month or so. Hope to

Thank you Max for all those comments. I regret that my FAWM fell apart at the same tiem you reappeared, I was looking forward to a long lsiten during the month (ior the half that was available). And now I'm gone again, sigh. Fascinated to see your take on Darkwater, which i cut short (I remember) at the time because I felt it was going nowhere. Others have said simialr things. Again, I'm a useless judge of my own stuff. Though...Dancing Strings was not a favourite of mine either!
